COMMAND TYPE OF COMMAND
DESCRIPTION
DS
SET UP/QUERY
INDEX DISTANCE/POSITION
Sets the index distance and direction for incremental index or the index position for absolute type
indexes. "DS" is a signed quantity in user units.
VE
SET UP/QUERY
INDEX VELOCITY
Sets the maximum allowable velocity for the index. "VE" is an unsigned quantity in rpm (see
"VU" command), since polarity for the index is set with the "DS" command.
AT/DT
SET UP/QUERY
INDEX ACCEL/DECEL RAMP
Sets the acceleration/deceleration ramp slopes for the index. Ramp slopes are programmed in
milliseconds to the maximum system velocity. Note that the slopes are independent of index
velocity. "VE" may be changed without affecting the index ramp slopes. All drives have a
maximum system velocity of 3000 rpm and unless this is reprogrammed by the user, all
acceleration and deceleration rates will be calculated from zero to 3000 rpm.
Example:
The user would like to reach an index velocity of 1500 rpm in 0.5 seconds. Since the
acceleration rate is based on the maximum system velocity of 3000 rpm, the following
ratio can be set up to find the desired acceleration time (AT).
Desired Index Velocity
=
Maximum System Velocity
Desired Time for Acceleration
Acceleration Time to be Programmed
ie:
1500 rpm
=
3000
0.5 sec
AT
gives:
AT = 3000 (0.5) = 1 sec
1500
NOTE:Acceleration and deceleration times are limited by load inertia, friction and system
torque. This must be remembered when accelerating and decelerating large loads.
