INSTALLATION OF THE IOM-1

INTRODUCTION

The IOM-1 is added to either extend the basic input output capability of a Positioning Drive or
facilitate the implementation of the parallel interface. The installation of the IOM-1 module is
made easy by a direct “plug-in” design. All the electrical connections between the basic digital
drive and the IOM-1 module are made via the 48 position connectors. Figure 1 shows how the
48-pin connectors mate on the Positioning Drive. This is the only electrical connections required
between the two units. Once plugged in, the top and bottom handles snap into position to secure
the module to the drive.

I/O Connections (IOM-1)

The IOM-1 module includes a parallel interface connector. The most common use of this
connector is thumbwheel interfacing, numeric display, or parallel programming.

The input and output connections are split between two terminal strips; one strip on the IOM
module #13-24 and one on the drive #1-12. Each strip consists of 8 input lines and 4 output
lines.
