When the Media Processing card in slot #13 becomes operational again (due to either a card
replacement or card restart), the
RELEASE MPC 13
command must then be issued by the user
for the Media Processing card housed in slot #14 to switch back to inactive (protection) status
(see
) and the Media Processing card in slot #13 to become active
(working).
In addition, after the
RELEASE MPC 13
command is issued the “protection active” alarm is
cleared.

Second Example:
The Media Processing card in slot #13 fails again and becomes operational again (due to either
a card replacement or card restart), but this time the
RELEASE MPC 13
command is
not
issued by the user for the Media Processing card housed in slot #14 to switch back to inactive
(protection) status (see
).
If the Media Processing card in slot #11 then subsequently fails due to a mechanical or other
error, the protection Media Processing card housed in slot #14 will drop the protection for Media
Processing card in slot #13 and switches to protect the Media Processing card in slot #11 (see
Note that when Media Processing card in slot #11 fails, the ACT LED on this card’s front panel
switches to OFF from GREEN. Depending upon the specific failure type, the command line
interface (CLI) may also display an alarm for that failure type after either issuing the
ALARMS
command or if autonomous messaging is enabled (
AUTOMSG
command).
In addition, the Packet Voice Processor shelf alarms (Critical and Major LED) will switch to RED
from OFF.

The protection Media Processing card housed in slot #14 will switch to active status and
perform the tasks previously performed by the second failed card. A “protection active” alarm
is raised when the protection Media Processing card switches to active status.
