2.2.2 Ethernet Port Connection
The Packet Voice Processor CLI is accessible through the Packet Voice Processor
system’s management Ethernet port located on the shelf backplane, also referred to
as the rear transition module or RTM ( Figure 2-1 ).

Commands issued via the Ethernet connection are processed by the active Switch
Control card. Both Switch Control cards (active and standby) have physical access
to this port; however, only one Switch Control card (the active card) is enabled to use
this port at any given time.
The Packet Voice Processor system management Ethernet is 10/100Base-TX,
provided on a RJ-45 connector. This interface supports full and half duplex modes,
as well as manual and auto-negotiation.
Table 2-2 describes the process for connecting to and logging onto the Switch
Control card through the Ethernet connection.
Note The procedure outlined in Table 2-2 on page 25 presumes that an IP Address has
been configured on the Managment Interface Port. For details on adding an IP
Address, see
Table 2-1 on page 24

Step Task Description
1 Determine the required number of Ethernet
cables, cable lengths, and the overall cabling
configuration prior to beginning the installation. For installation planning and assistance,
contact Ditech Customer Service (see
page iii ).
2 Ensure that the shelf backplane Ethernet port
has been provisioned with an IP address, prior
to attempting system management through this
port. Refer to Table 2-1 on page 24 , for
instructions on provisioning the IP address
and other parameters for the Ethernet port
located on the shelf backplane.
