Security Provisioning
Packet Voice Processor Commands Manual
7.1.1 Access Levels and Privileges
The first type of security provided by the Packet Voice Processor are user access
levels. Commands accessible to each user are contingent upon that user’s access
level. There are four access levels: Admin, Expert, Write, and Read.
These four user access levels are hierarchical. The highest access level, Admin,
provides the broadest access to the system, while the lowest access level, Read,
provides the least system access. For example, users with Admin access level
privileges can access all commands and change all user passwords, while users with
Read access level privileges can only view data and are unable to change the status
of the system.
Note
A user’s access level or privilege is set with the
USERS ADD
command. For
additional information, see
7.1.2 Setting Passwords
The second type of security provided by the Packet Voice Processor are passwords
to access the Packet Voice Processor system itself.
To change or clear all passwords through the access level method requires Admin
access level privileges. Users with other access levels can only change or clear their
own passwords. All logins are prompted for a user ID and password.
Note
A password consists of 0 to 32 printable characters.
lists the steps required to perform password setup with a LAN/WAN
connection. With this method, the user must have Admin access level privileges to
change all passwords. For any users who have had their passwords cleared, <Enter>
alone is accepted as a valid password.
Note
For information about establishing a physical connection to the Switch Control card
to communicate with the card, see
Section 2.2, “Connecting to the PVP”, on page 23
