Procedures

8.1 Overview

This chapter provides information about common Packet Voice Processor

maintenance procedures. These maintenance procedures are discussed in the

following sections:

Software upgrading -

Section 8.2 on page 81

Provisioning autonomous alarms -

Section 8.3 on page 83

Switching Packet Voice Processor cards -

Section 8.4 on page 84

In addition, this chapter also provides information about the redundancy schemes for

the Packet Voice Processor cards (see

Section 8.5 on page 85

Note

The system maintenance procedures should be used after a Packet Voice Processor
system is properly provisioned to maintain proper operation. For the Packet Voice
Processor system provisioning steps, refer to

Section 2.3 on page 26

8.2 Software
Upgrading

One of the main features of the Packet Voice Processor is the ease of in-service

software upgrades. The Version-Control commands control software upgrades for

both the Switch Control card and other cards.

Table 8-1

displays the commands used in the upgrade process.

During the upgrade process, the new software is uploaded into the inactive plane on

the Switch Control card where it resides until the execution of the

CUTOVER

command. Each Switch Control card contains two software loads: the active load,

which is the currently running load, and the inactive load, which is not activated until

a successful

CUTOVER

command is completed.

Table 8-1 Upgrade Process Commands

whole system.
