Packet Voice Processor Commands Manual

1.1.2.1 Working and Protection Card Roles

The Switch Control cards, Application Processing cards, and Media Processing

cards are assigned either working or protection roles depending upon their location

within the Packet Voice Processor shelf. The Switch Control card housed in shelf slot

number 1 has the working role. The Switch Control card housed in shelf slot number

2 has the protection role.

The Application Processing card housed in shelf slot number 8 has the working role.

The Application Processing card housed in shelf slot number 10 has the protection

role.

The Media Processing cards housed in shelf slots 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13 have

working roles. The Media Processing card housed in shelf slot 14 has the protection

role.

Note

Both Interface Processing cards have working roles. Redundancy is provided by LAG
(Link Aggregation Group) provisioning for these card types (see

Section 10.6 on

page 135

for LAG command information).

1.2 Network
Interfaces

To meet the network needs of the greatest number of customers, the PVP has

separate interfaces for management, signaling, and media transport. The three

networks can connect into a single subnet or separate subnets, with a range of router

configurations.

Figure 1-4

below displays a schematic of the PVP network planes.
