6.2.3 Preliminary LAG and LACP Planning

Table 6-1

below lists the specific tasks that should be performed prior to beginning

LAG and LACP provisioning for the Packet Voice Processor.

Table 6-1 Preliminary LAG and LACP Planning

Step Task

Review the current network configuration and link protection scheme(s). Determine how the
Packet Voice Processor will fit within this network configuration.

Refer to

Table 6-2 on page 62

for a list of network elements that are required for adding the

Packet Voice Processor to a network.

Determine how many LAGs will be required for the Packet Voice Processor installation.

Determine the number of Interface Processing cards that will be used in the Packet Voice
Processor installation for the bearer traffic (media).

Refer to the

Packet Voice Processor Hardware Manual

(as listed on

page v

) for information

about Interface Processing cards.

Determine the number of Gigabit Ethernet ports on each Interface Processing card that will be
used in the Packet Voice Processor installation.

Determine how many links (Gigabit Ethernet ports) will be assigned to each LAG.

Determine each LAG’s IP address(es).

Determine the minimum and maximum UDP port numbers required for each LAG IP address.

Determine the LAG standby ports for media traffic redirection in the event of a LAG port failure
(see

Section 6.4.2 on page 69

for additional information).

Determine the next-hop media device’s IP address (e.g. router, SBC, or media gateway).

Determine each LAG port’s redundancy role (either master or backup).
