Processing

The Packet Voice Processor performs the following media processes:

Voice codec Transcoding

Voice quality enhancement using VQA and IPR technologies.

The Packet Voice Processor supports the process of decoding and encoding of voice

streams, which is used to enable voice codec transcoding and voice quality

enhancement.

VQA technology improves the quality of the voice in a call and offers noise reduction,

enhanced voice intelligibility, voice level control, and acoustic echo cancellation

capabilities. IPR technology addresses quality issues specific to IP transport, such

as packet loss, delay, and jitter.

Figure 1-7

displays a schematic of a possible Packet Voice Processor deployment

within an IP network, as well as how the VQA and IPR technologies would improve

the call.

Media processing is performed on the Media Processing cards. These cards support

a 1:N redundancy and can be hot-swapped during live operations without affecting

media traffic.
