6.5 Compressed Clips
The internal clip store of the Slate G Series system can support playback of standard
definition and high definition compressed clips. Non-G Series system can only support
standard definition clips. This is ideal if you are exporting video files from a non-linear
editing system like Avid or Final Cut Pro or even an animated background from Adobe
After Effects or Apple Motion. Alpha channels with compressed clips are not supported,
to import an animation with an alpha channel you need to export it as a 32 bit image
sequence, see section 5.4.4.
To play compressed clips, appropriate codecs need to be installed on the workstation.
These are either installed at the factory on new systems, or are installed through an
update for existing customers. For assistance please contact technical support.
To play compressed clips:
1.
Export your files out of your 3rd party software with these settings:
Standard Definition
- File Size: 720x486/NTSC or 720x576/PAL
(4:3 or anamorphic/widescreen at 1.2 pixel aspect ratio 16:9)
- Frame Rate: 29.97/NTSC or 25/PAL
- Field Order/Dominance: Bottom/Lower first/NTSC or Top/Upper first/PAL
- Scan Mode: Interlaced
High Definition
- File Size: 1280x720p or 1920x1080i
- Frame Rate: 59.94/50 or 29.97/25
For QuickTime movies:
- Video Compression Settings: DV/DVCPro 25 Mbps, H.264 or ProRes
- Quality: Best
- Audio Settings: Stereo PCM Data, 16 bit, 48kHz (or any sample rate)
- File Extension: .mov
2.
Copy the movie file to the D:\clips directory of the Broadcast Pix workstation.
3.
Add the file to your show using PixMaster as described in section 3.
4.
Play/control your clip as described in this section.
NOTE:
The clip store does not support 1080 progressive formats.
