About the security gateway’s implementation of DNS
Configuring resource records for the security gateway
After you understand the way to set up your environment, you need to configure the appropriate
resource records for your configuration.
This section describes the following tasks:
■
Defining an authoritative server with a DNS authority record
■
Pointing to an external name server with a DNS forwarder record
■
Identifying a host in a domain with a DNS host record
■
Defining your email server with a DNS mail server record
■
Defining the server that performs lookups with a DNS name server record
■
Resolving host name requests for an outside system by creating a DNS recursion record
■
Configuring DNS for an enclave network with a DNS root server record
■
Delegating naming authority with a DNS subnet record
■
Help to block spam or email forgery by configuring a DNS TXT record
Defining an authoritative server with a DNS authority record
An authority record defines the name server that is responsible for a given domain. You can make the
DNS proxy authoritative for both public and private domains.
Prerequisites
None.
To define an authoritative server with a DNS authority record

In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Assets, click
Network
.

In the right pane, on the DNS tab, click
New > DNS Authority Record
.

In the DNS Authority Record Properties dialog box, on the General tab, do the following:

Optionally, on the Description tab, type a more detailed description than what you typed in the
Caption text box.

Click
OK
.

Optionally, do one of the following:

To save your configuration now and activate later, on the toolbar, click
Save
.
■
To activate your configuration now, on the toolbar, click
Activate
.
When prompted to save your changes, click
Yes
.

Enable
To enable the DNS authority record, check
Enable
.
Record Name
Type the domain name for which you are authoritative.
Accessibility
Select Public or Private.
Caption
Type a brief description of the authority record.
