Alerting using notifications
Configuring an email notification
Email notifications send the text of the log message that generated the notification to the recipient
through email. When configuring a mail notification, ensure that the email address is valid and
resolvable. Mail notification messages are not encrypted. An attacker that intercepts the email
message could potentially use the information in them to launch an attack.
Note: Do not send mail notifications over a public network.
Prerequisites
Complete the following task before beginning this procedure:

To configure an email notification
1 In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Monitors, click Notifications .
2 In the right pane, on the Notifications tab, click New > Email Notification .
3 In the Email Notification Properties dialog box, on the General Tab, to enable the notification,
check
Enable .
4 In the Notification Name text box, type a name for the notification.

Optionally, in the Time Period drop-down list, you can select a time period in which the notification
will be valid.
6 To define the severity of the alerts necessary to trigger the notification, check the appropriate
Triggered by Event options.
7 In the Email Address text box, type the email address of the recipient.
8 In the Caption text box, type a brief description of the notification.
9 Optionally, on the Description tab, type a more detailed description than you typed in the Caption
text box.
10 Click OK .

Optionally, do one of the following:

To save your configuration now and activate later, on the toolbar, click Save .
■
To activate your configuration now, on the toolbar, click Activate .
When prompted to save your changes, click Yes .

If you set the security level for triggering a notification to Alert, you can use the Alert Threshold
tab in the Rule Properties dialog box to control when alert events are logged.
