Delegating naming authority with a DNS subnet record
You can use DNS subnets to delegate naming authority for a range of addresses, including Classless
Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) addresses. Subnet records are also sometimes referred to as subnet
maps.
Subnet records are only required if you do not own the entire Class C IP address scheme. When you
configure it you must also configure an authority record.
Note:
Your security gateway responds to reverse lookup requests only when your ISP has delegated the
reverse domain and you have configured your security gateway as the reverse domain authority for the
subnet.
Prerequisites
Complete the following task before beginning this procedure:

To delegate naming authority with a DNS subnet record

In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Assets, click
Network
.

In the right pane, on the DNS tab, click
New > DNS Subnet Record
.

In the DNS Subnet Record Properties dialog box, on the General tab, do the following:

On the Domains Served tab, to configure the domain for which the name server will provide
service, do the following:

In the Domain text box, type the domain name.

Click
Add
.

Optionally, on the Description tab, type a more detailed description than what you typed in the
Caption text box.

Click
OK

Optionally, do one of the following:

To save your configuration now and activate later, on the toolbar, click
Save

Enable
To enable the DNS subnet record, click
Enable
.
Accessibility
Select Private or Public.
IP address
Type the IP address of the DNS subnet.
Netmask
Type the subnet mask.
Caption
Type a brief description of the DNS subnet.
