High availability and load balancing using clusters
Updating interfaces in a cluster configuration
Adding a network interface to a cluster member
You can enable one of the unused interfaces on a cluster member as usage requirements increase. Add
only one new interface at a time.
Adding a network interface in a cluster environment requires changes to the individual cluster
members and to the cluster itself. When you add a new network interface to a cluster, you need to plug
a network cable into the interface on each cluster member.
Prerequisites
None.
Adding a network interface to a cluster member
When you add an interface to a cluster member you need to also update the cluster configuration.
To define the logical name of the new interface
1
Log on to the cluster member.
2
In the SGMI, on the Tool menu, click
System Setup Wizard
.
3
In the System Setup Wizard, click
Next
on each panel until the Network Interfaces panel displays.
4
In the Network Interfaces panel, select the new network interface.
5
Identify the new interface by providing the following information:
You must define the same logical name, IP address, netmask, and interface type on all cluster
members.
6
Click
Next
.
7
In the Confirmation panel, click
Finish
.
8
Complete steps 1 through 6 for all cluster members.
To update the cluster configuration
1
Ensure that all members of the cluster have the new interface defined, and are up and running.
2
Log on to any cluster member.
The cluster member you log on to is the member from which changes are made to the cluster
configuration and passed on to other cluster members.
3
In the SGMI, on the Tools menu, click
Cluster
>
Update Interfaces
.
4
In the Warning message dialog box, when you are prompted to add the newly detected interface to
the configuration, click
Yes
.
5
On the Cluster Update Interface panel, click
Next
.
6
On the Confirmation panel, verify that all cluster members have been contacted.
Interface type Select either Outside or Inside as the interface type.
The heartbeat interface attribute is defined in the Cluster Wizard.
Name
Type a logical name for the interface.
IP address
Edit the IP address.
You must use an IP address that is unique to the subnet to which the security gateway
connects.
Netmask
Edit the netmask address.
