Assets field descriptions
The security gateway offers many scenarios for implementing DNS. The scenario you choose depends
on how your current network is configured and your DNS objectives. Use the scenario descriptions
below to help you decide how to implement DNS for your network. The first scenario is to have a
caching name server and this option is configured by default out of the box. You may not have to do
any further configuration if this is the option you require.
DNS Authority Record Properties—General tab
An authority record defines the name server that is responsible for a given domain. The DNS proxy is
only authoritative for those domains and networks defined through the DNS Record Properties dialog
box.
For any given domain, there is only one name server delegated as the primary DNS server for a domain.
You can make the DNS proxy authoritative for both public and private requests.

DNS Authority Record Properties—Description tab
Optionally, provides an extended description. This information is useful to help track changes or it can
be used as criteria for searches.
The maximum length is 20,000 alphanumeric characters.

Indicates whether this option is enabled.
This option is checked by default.
Record name
A unique name for the DNS authority record.
The maximum length is 256 characters.
Allowed characters are a-z, A-Z, numerals, periods (.), and dashes (-).
Do not include spaces in the name. The characters @,!,#,$,%,^,&,*,<,>, _ and other reserved
characters are also invalid.
Accessibility
The drop-down list includes the following:

Public
Defines the outside interface as the authoritative DNS server for your domain. Any
host (internal or external) can request public.
■
Private
Defines the DNS proxy as authoritative for private requests within the domain.
Requests for private domains are only allowed for internal networks.
The default selection is Private.
Caption
An optional, brief description of the authority record.
The maximum length is 128 characters.
For longer descriptions, use the Description tab.
