Individual drives are hot-swappable. RAID 6 provides data protection for
systems with two failing drives in the same RAID set.
Caution: Changing drives is to be performed by qualified service
technicians using Quantum-approved procedures.
Removing hard drives during system operation may cause
loss of data or degraded system performance. Contact
Quantum customer support (see Contacts on page xxvii) to
report any hard drive failure.
The storage in the DXi8500 can be presented to host systems as virtual
tape storage inside a virtual tape library (VTL), as a NAS mount point, or,
in Symantec OpenStorage (OST) API environments as a Logical Storage
Unit (LSU). The DXi8500 can present its drive storage using multiple
protocols:
• Virtual Tape Storage
• Network Attached Storage (NAS)
• OpenStorage (OST)
DXi Usage Scenarios
DXi storage presentations are optimized for backup usage rather than
file sharing. Backup application usage is typically characterized by:
• Aggregated name spaces and file contents.
• Limited direct, active file access.
