Overview
The DXi8500 is the Enterprise disk backup solution that integrates data
deduplication, replication, and direct tape creation technology to
connect backup and DR (disaster recovery) protection across distributed
corporate environments. The DXi8500 disk-based backup appliance uses
Quantum’s patented data deduplication technology to increase disk
capacities by 10 to 50 times, and make WAN replication a practical,
cost-effective part of disaster recovery planning. Scalable to 330TB
usable capacity, the DXi8500 is designed for larger sites and corporate
data centers.
Major features of the DXi8500 include:
• Variable length data deduplication for maximum data reduction.
• Remote replication compatible with all DXi models.
• Direct path to tape capability with leading backup applications.
• DXi Accent software for faster backup over bandwidth-constrained
networks by distributing deduplication between the DXi appliance
and the backup server.
• Maximum native usable capacity of 320TB (using 1TB or 2TB drives)
or 330TB (using 3TB drives).
• Inclusion of all software (replication, VTL interface, OST support,
DXi Accent) in the product base price.
The DXi8500 combines Enterprise disk backup features with data
deduplication and replication technology to provide data center
protection and anchor a comprehensive data protection strategy for
distributed environments.
Advanced Data Deduplication Increasing Disk Retention for
Backup Data
The DXi8500 leverages Quantum’s patented data deduplication
technology (U.S. Pat. No.: 5,990,810) to dramatically increase the role
that disk can play in the protection of critical data. With the DXi8500
solution, users can retain 10 to 50 times more backup data on fast
recovery disk than with conventional arrays.
