DXi8500 System Components
For improved performance with VTL presentations, the DXi8500 Base
system has six 8 Gb Fibre Channel ports. Four of these ports connect to
the backup host and two are dedicated to the direct path to tape
feature. NAS and OST connectivity are also supported using four
10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet (RJ45 connector) ports and two 10 GbE
ports (offering optical or copper Twinax connectivity). Also available
with the DXi8500 system are two optional 10 GbE Ethernet ports.
The DXi8500 system consists of the following components:
• 1 System Node
• 1 Fibre Channel switch (1TB and 2TB systems only)
• 1 Ethernet switch
• 1 Redundant Power Supply (RPS) for the Ethernet switch
• 1 or 2 Metadata modules
• 2 to 10 Array modules
• 0 to 10 Expansion modules
Note: (2TB systems only) An expansion rack is required for all
Expansion modules and the 10th Array module.
Hard Drive Storage
Serial Attached SCSI hard drives are the heart of the DXi8500 system
(see Figure 3 ). User data is stored on dedicated arrays of serial-attached
drives in RAID 6 configurations.
