8500/8520/8560 Digital Telephones
Perform the following procedure for the 8500, 8520, and 8560 digital telephones.
To perform the self-test procedure on 8500, 8520, and 8560 digital telephones:
1.
While pressing the asterisk (*) and pound/hash (#) buttons, unplug and replace the phone line
cord.
2.
Release the buttons. The phone rings momentarily. Display phones show a dark display – all
pixels lit. If all pixels are not lit, return the phone. The LEDs should not light. If an LED is lit, the
button may be stuck.
3.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone sounds an alerting tone. If no tone is heard, return the
phone. Display phones show a blank display—no pixels lit. If any pixel is lit, return the phone.
4.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily. Display phones show a display filled
with Os.
5.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily. Display phones show a display filled
with Ms.
6.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily, and all red, LED-equipped buttons
light. Display phones show
TESTING LED MATRIX
. If any of the LEDs do not light, return the
phone for repair.
7.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily, and all green, LED-equipped buttons
light. Display phones show

8.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily. Display phones show

9.
One at a time, press each of the buttons on the phone in any order. If the button is functioning
properly, a key tone is heard, the LED lights red, and a specific code is shown on the display.
The proper code for each button is diagrammed in Figure 7 on
. If the signal is not
heard or the displayed code is incorrect, the button is faulty; return the phone for repair.
10.
Lift and replace the handset. The speaker tones are broadcast over the speakerphone speaker.

Lift and replace the handset. Tones of various volume levels, from softest to loudest, are broad

Lift the handset, then press and release the hookswitch. The handset tones are broadcast over
the handset receiver. Display phones show

13.
Put on the headset
(if one is attached)
and place the handset back in its cradle. The headset
tones are broadcast over the headset. Display phones show

14.
Lift and replace the handset. The phone rings momentarily, and it takes approximately five
seconds for the phone to return to normal operation. Display phones show
TESTNG COMPLETED!
for several seconds.
15.
Replace the phone if faulty.
