Installing Mitel 52xx/53xx IP Phones
Installation guides are packed with each Mitel 52xx/53xx IP phone (5212, 5224, 5304, 5312, 5324,
5320, 5330, 5340, and 5360). Refer to the instructions in these guides and to the information in this
section. For specifications, see page 102.
This information is also available in PDF format on the
(http://edocs.mitel.com/).
Special Considerations for 52xx/53xx Phones
Consider the following before installing the Mitel 52xx/53xx phones:
• An IEEE 802.3af LAN-powered jack provides power to the phone using a LAN cable. The phone
receives ethernet signals and power through the same cable, also known as Power over Ethernet
(PoE).
• An Ethernet power adapter provides power to the phone using a LAN cable. The Ethernet power
adapter is connected to the LAN using a separate LAN cable connected to a jack. (The phone
receives ethernet signals and power through the same cable.)
• The Mitel 5212 and 5224 are
not
supported for remote/teleworker locations.
• When using a Mitel 53xx from a remote/teleworker location, make sure port 69 is open on the
corporate firewall to allow communication to the MiVoice Office 250 server.
• Mitel 52xx/53xx phones use DHCP option 128 for TFTP communication and DHCP option 129
for the call control address. Mitel 86xx phones use DHCP option 66 for TFTP communication
and UDP discovery (broadcast) for the call control address (.cfg file).
• DB Programming provides the option to convert existing classic phone extensions to Mitel phone
extensions.
• Preprinted paper designation cards are available for many models (such as the Mitel 5212 and
5224).
52xx/53xx Hardware Installation and Cabling Procedure
To install Mitel 52xx/53xx phones:
1.
Plug the handset cord into the handset port and thread it through one of the slots on either side
of the base unit. See Figure 3 on
for connection point examples.
2.
Thread the LAN cable plug through the slot on the back of the installed base unit, and plug it
into the LAN port on the back of the phone.
3.
Plug the other end of the LAN cable into one of the following:
•
Phone port on Ethernet power adapter (power brick). Then, connect the Ethernet adapter
to the LAN using a separate LAN cable. Plug the power adapter into an AC power outlet.
•
LAN-powered (PoE) jack. The LAN-powered phone can also provide power to any attached
peripheral, such as a conference unit (reserved for future use).
4.
(Optional) Plug the headset cord into the headset port on the back of the phone. Thread the
headset cord through one of the slots on either side of the base unit, as shown for the handset
cord in Figure 3 on
