UVM Forward to E-Mail Characteristics
UVM Forward to E-Mail possesses the following characteristics:
• Forward to e-mail for SMTP–MIME servers only.
• Forward voice mail as
.wav
and
MP3
file attachments in e-mail messages.
• The
.wav
encoding format plays on a standard PC running Windows
®
.
Initial Recording Handling
If
Forward and Copy
is selected as the e-mail forwarding type in DB Programming, the initial
recording is left at the voice mailbox until deleted using voice mail.
If
Forward
is selected at the voice mailbox as the e-mail forwarding type, the initial recording is
deleted. Use this setting with caution because e-mail delivery on the Internet is not guaranteed. Only
one copy is kept on the system of the initial recording.
Temporary Files
Temporary files are used during the conversion from the initial recorded message to the SMTP–
MIME format. The temporary storage required may impact overall UVM storage capacity.
Authentication Supported by UVM
Users do not need to configure anything for authentication beyond setting their username and
password. However, the SMTP mail software package supports three types of authentication that
occur automatically when connecting with the SMTP server. The three types of authentication are:
• PLAIN
• LOGIN
• CRAM-MD5
This package does not support Microsoft SPA (Secure Password Authentication), also known as
NTLM. If the server supports CRAM-MD5, this is the most secure method supported.
Many SMTP servers validate messages to prevent what is referred to as an “open relay.” These
SMTP servers require that the source and destination addresses are valid e-mail domains. Improper
configuration of the settings within the MiVoice Office 250 may result in rejected e-mail messages.
End-users may also use anti-spam software to filter out unwanted e-mail messages. End-users may
need to configure their anti-spam software to allow the forwarded voice mail to reach the user's
in-box.
NOTE
If both Remote Messaging and Forward to E-Mail features are enabled, the Forward and
Copy option must be selected. If the Forward Only option is selected, the user will not receive
Remote Messaging notifications.
