Installation
217
• When adding new DEI units, you can connect two DEI cables together to extend the reach
between the MiVoice Office 250 and the DEI units you want to add. This allows existing DEIs to
remain in place while you upgrade the new DEIs.
• When installing any DEI unit, make sure module bays are empty. DO NOT attach DEIs to the
system with populated module bays. The servers are shipped without modules installed. The
examples throughout this document are for illustrative purposes only. Module covers must remain
in place if there is not an actual module to occupy a module bay. The covers help to ensure
foreign material does not enter the chassis.
• In 4-DEI mode, there are 48 voice channels to each DEI; this provides one voice channel per
digital telephone. Features that require a second voice channel, such as OHVA, MDPM, and
dual-SLA, require special attention. Enable these features using the current methods; however,
these features use a voice channel that could otherwise be used by a telephone on the same
DEI. DB Programming counts the time slots used by these features and enforces the maximum
timeslot limit for each DEI.
Installing/Upgrading the DEI Chassis
To install the DEI chassis:
1.
Make sure you have upgraded system software to v3.0 or later.
•
If the system has DEIs
, disconnect them, and connect only DEI #1. If a voice mail system
was connected to the last DEI, remove the VM—DEI cable from the last DEI in the chain.
•
If no DEIs exist
, and you are adding new DEIs, connect only DEI #1.
Refer also to the DEI notice, part number 835.3242, that is included in the box with the DEI you
want to install.
2.
Install the chassis in the rack under the MiVoice Office 250 Controller. Allow room below the
chassis for future expansion (for example, more DEI chassis or an optional external voice
processing system) and proper cooling. See Figure 5 on
, and Figure 8 on
for examples.
3.
When installing one or more DEIs, do the following:
a.
Leave the system powered on.
Do not power cycle the Base Server or PS-1
, if applicable.
b.
Disconnect any existing DEI units.
c.
Install the first DEI unit and connect the DEI cable to the system. After the first DEI is installed
and upgraded, power cycle the DEI, and then remove the cable and install the next DEI.
You can connect several DEI cables together as shown in Figure 7 on
to extend
the cable and reach other DEI units.
d.
After the last DEI is upgraded, reconnect all DEIs and power up the system. All are now
functional and ready for programming. Keep in mind when programming and using more
than 2 DEI, you must select the correct mode—2-mode or 4-mode.
NOTE
Prior to the 5000 Release v6.0, the optional external voice processing system would
have been the Voice Processing Unit (VPU
—
unsupported since v3.0) or Enterprise
Messaging (unsupported as of v6.0). Beginning with 5000 Release v6.0, NuPoint
Unified Messaging (UM) is the supported external voice processing system.
