Mitel 52xx/53xx IP phones do not support the
Automatic
Network Address Translation (NAT) address
type. In DB Programming, you must select either Native or NAT for private and public networks.

Automatic NAT Detection automatically determines whether an IP phone is inside the firewall or
outside the firewall. In DB Programming, the administrator designates each IP phone to use the
Auto type, as well as either Native or NAT types. The default selection is Auto. Automatic NAT
detection is performed each time an IP phone comes online and whenever the feature is set through
DB Programming.
This feature does not work with IP Gateways, IP trunks, wireless 8664/8665/8668 phones, any IP
phones in SIP mode, and third-party SIP phones. Firmware on these phones cannot run the Auto
NAT Detection test. For these phones, the installer needs to manually select the NAT Type setting.
Protocols and Ports
Port Usage and Protocols on page 442 in Appendix B describes required connections for IP
phones, and UDP port assignments. The IP network must allow the phones to establish these
connections for proper operation.
99 Nodes Support
Version 2.1 or later software allows MiVoice Office 250 systems to expand to 99-node networks in
the United States and European markets. Each node can transparently interconnect to 98 other
systems using T1/E1/PRI networking and IP networking.
With the 99 Nodes feature, the increased network capacity does not affect phone user features.
Phone users can still dial an extension of a remote user, and the system will transparently route the
call throughout the network. From an administrative perspective, you must consider the following
issues as the node capacity increases:

Database Management
: To program the 99 Nodes feature, you must log-in to individual systems
to configure them. You must plan for supporting a 99-node network by devising a numbering
plan scheme for each node. You should be aware that the creation of new devices automatically
causes the system to export extensions to the network. The use of export/import may take longer
if you attempt to export/import with all 98 remote nodes.

Numbering Plan
: The system supports extensions with a maximum of five digits. It is important
to design a network numbering plan that can support all devices in the network.

DB Programming Export/Import
: Creation of new devices on any node of a network automatically
causes the system to export extensions across the network. Once network established, you can
use DB Programming to adjust node parameters, including the import or export of devices.
Because of the potential complexity of managing a network with numerous nodes and devices,
it is essential that the system administrator devise a network numbering scheme that accom -
modates all 99 nodes.
NOTE
Due to licensing changes in v4.0 or later, the Extended Node Capacity license is no longer
required to support more than 63 nodes.
