System Licensing Requirements
Software licensing controls device capacity and feature availability on the MiVoice Office 250.
Licensing is associated with a system by means of a serialized compact flash-type card or a USB
key that inserts into a recessed USB slot located on the front of the unit chassis.
MiVoice Office 250 systems are delivered without software licensing. Licenses are generated and
downloaded from the Applications Management Center (AMC). By default, unlicensed MiVoice Office
250 systems can be programmed with the capabilities of fully provisioned systems. However, if the
applicable licenses are not provided and authenticated within four hours, the system automatically
reboots itself.
If the system does not have a software license, Alarm 125 is sent to the LCD panel on the unit
chassis and to the administrator phone. This alarm is generated every 5 minutes, and the system
reboots every 4 hours until the license issue is resolved. For detailed information about system
alarms, refer to the latest
Message Print Diagnostics Manual
.
If DB Programming connects to a system with a valid software license, you cannot restore a database
that would invalidate the license. If you need to change the product type, you must first load a new
software license through DB Programming. For details, refer to the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and
Programming Guide
.
Compact Flash Licensing Information
Starting with the v3.2 software release, the system now supports Base Server chassis licensing
through a serialized compact flash-type card rather than through a USB key.
All features currently licensable using a USB key can be made available for licensing using a compact
flash-type card. The license file from the AMC can be associated with either medium, but not both
concurrently.
Specifics
The following list provides some specific information about compact flash-type licensing:
• Requires system software v3.2 or later.
• Contains the same feature licensing information as was used on the USB key.
• Applies only to systems not equipped with a PS-1/vPS-1. Systems with a physical PS-1 will
continue to use a USB key for licensing.
• Existing systems upgrading to v3.2 or later can continue to use a USB key for licensing. New
systems will ship with a serialized compact flash-type card for licensing.
• When adding a PS-1/vPS-1 to a system already using the newer compact flash-type licensing,
a USB key is once again required for licensing. The licensing information on the existing compact
flash-type card will not be used.
• Licensing via a USB key can be replaced with licensing via a serialized compact flash-type card,
but it is not necessary to do so. If an existing USB key fails, a replacement USB key can be used
or a serialized compact flash-type card can be used.
NOTE
Whereas systems without a PS-1/vPS-1can now use either USB key licensing or compact
flash-type licensing, the physical PS-1 chassis must still use USB key licensing.
