Interconnect management cable, for remote I/O management. The RXE-100
ships with a 3.5 m cable. Two lengths are available:
– 3.5 m interconnect management cable kit (part number 31P6087)
– 8 m interconnect management cable kit (part number 31P6088)
Use the 8 m versions of each of these cables if the distances between the two
devices warrant the extra length (for example, in separate racks).
Power to the RXE-100 enclosures is controlled by the servers via the
interconnect management cable and under the control of the Remote Supervisor
Adapter.
The following connections to the RXE-100 are supported:
One server connecting to a six-slot RXE-100
One server connecting to a 12-slot RXE-100
A two-node server connecting to one shared RXE-100
Two standalone servers connecting to one shared RXE-100
Four-nodes connecting to one or two RXE-100s
One server connecting to a six-slot RXE-100
When the RXE-100 has only six PCI-X slots installed, connect a single RXE
management cable and a single RXE data cable, as shown in Figure 3-8 on
page 73.
Important: This interconnect management cable has standard RJ-45
connectors, but it is not wired the same as an Ethernet or crossover cable.
Ensure that the proper cable is used to connect the server to the RXE-100.
The management cable has two twisted wire pairs: Pins 2 and 3 connect to
one pair, pins 7 and 8 connect to another. With the Ethernet cable, the wire
pairs are connected to the following pins: 1 and 2, 3 and 6, 4 and 5, 7 and
8.
