Chapter 4. Installation

4. Look for the specific device in the FSx section. In our example, the entry is
highlighted in Figure 4-4 on page 98. The entry will include the string
USB
.
If the USB device is attached to a USB hub (for example, a memory key
plugged into the USB port of a USB keyboard), then two USB strings will
appear in the entry, as shown in Figure 4-5.

5. Access the device by its name followed by the colon; for example,
fs2:
.
6. Use the commands
cd
,
ls
(or
dir
),
cp
(or
copy
),
mv
,
rm
to manipulate the files
on the device in the same way you would access a device through the
operating system.
The commands have a similar syntax to DOS or UNIX. However, where there
are duplications only one is listed in Help. For example, only
ls
is listed in
Help, but
dir
also works. If
dir /?
is typed the syntax for
ls
is shown.
CD-ROM media supported in the x455 can either be ISO9660 (El-Torito) or Joliet
format. This differs from the x455 that only supported ISO9660. Writing to the
DVD/CD-RW drive is not supported from the EFI shell.
If Joliet format is used then we recommend that you use 8.3 DOS format for file
names, as the EFI will truncate long file names that may then be difficult to
decipher. If ISO9660 (El-Torito) is used then EFI displays the full file name.
There are a variety of built-in shell commands. Of note are:
help -b
displays a list of the available commands. The -b parameter pauses
the display after each screen full of information and can be used by many EFI
commands.
To view the contents of a text file, use the
viewer
command.
To edit any text file, use the
edit
command.
