3.7 IBM Director support
IBM Director is a systems management application and can be adopted easily
into heterogeneous environments. It is based on industry standards and
designed for ease of use. The Java™-based GUI helps administrators manage
single or large groups of IBM and non-IBM servers, workstations, desktop
computers, and notebook computers.
The 64-bit IBM Director Agent has the following functions:
Event Action Plans
Event Log
File Transfer
Inventory (all except CIM-based information)
Management Processor Assistant (requires ASM device driver)
Process Management
Remote Control
Remote Session
Resource Monitors
ServeRAID Manager
Software Distribution (Basic and Premium)
SNMP Browser
Agent for Windows and Linux
The Scalable Systems Manager is a plug-in of IBM Director that communicates
solely out-of-band with the service processor, to create and manage static
hardware partitions in the x455. These static partitions are referred to as scalable
partitions throughout the Scalable Systems Manager interface. Because
Scalable Systems Manager communicates out-of-band with the x455, the
primary task you can perform with Scalable Systems Manager is to configure a
scalable partition for a specific offline server before starting the operating system
for that server.
Scalable Systems Manager is going to be the only way to have two or four
operating system instances in a multi-node configuration. For two-node
configuration it is possible to have two different instances and for four-node
configuration it is possible to have four different instances.

Note: The 64-bit versions of IBM Director Agent and Scalable Systems
Manager, for both Windows and Linux, are scheduled to be available in the
first quarter of 2004.
