Chapter 5. Mounting the 155Mbps ATM I/O Card
This chapter describes the installation procedures for the optional 155Mbps ATM I/O Card:
Ÿ Precautionary procedures
Ÿ Unpacking the I/O card
Ÿ Installing the I/O card in the ATM Workgroup Switch
No special tools are needed to install the I/O card. The procedure is the same for both the single mode
I/O card and the multi-mode I/O card.

Precautions
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage static-sensitive devices on circuit boards. Follow these
precautions when you handle the 155Mbps ATM I/O Card.
Warnings:
1. Do not remove the board from its anti-static shielding bag until you are ready to inspect or install it.
2. Handle the board by the faceplate only.
Use one of the following proper grounding techniques, if possible, when you install the 155Mbps ATM I/O
Card:
Ÿ Use a foot strap and grounded mat or wear a grounded static discharge wrist strap.
Ÿ
Touch the grounded rack or other source of ground just before you handle the I/O card
Unpacking the I/O Card
To unpack the 155Mbps ATM I/O Card:
1. Verify that the I/O card is the feature that you ordered by checking the MFI Part Number listed on the
side of the shipping carton:
Ÿ P/N 47H2290 - Multimode Fiber (MMF) I/O card
Ÿ P/N 51H3860 - Single Mode Fiber (SMF) I/O card
2. Remove the I/O card from the shipping carton.
3. Remove the I/O card from the anti-static shielding bag, and inspect it for damage.
Always handle the I/O card by the faceplate, being careful not to touch the components. If the I/O
card appears to be damaged, return it to the anti-static shielding bag, repack in the shipping carton,
and contact your local supplier.

