Chapter 8. Power-On and Self Test
This chapter describes the Power-On procedure and the ATM Workgroup Switch’s subsequent Power-On
Self Test (POST) routine.
Power-On Procedure
To power-on the ATM Workgroup Switch, perform the following steps:

Connect the power cords first to the Base Unit and Expansion Unit and then to an electrical
outlet.
Note: Neither the ATM Workgroup Switch Base Unit nor the Expansion Unit have a power
switch. They are powered on when you plug in the power cord.

Check that the Power LEDs (|) on the front panels of the Base Unit and the Expansion Unit
are lit (step 1 in Figure 36 on page 70).
Ÿ If they are not lit, check that the power outlet is working correctly.
Ÿ If the outlet is working and the Power LEDs are not lit, check the power cords.
Ÿ If the power cords are working and the Power LEDs are still not lit, contact your IBM
service representative.

Verify that the Power-On Self Test (POST) has been completed successfully:
Ÿ If none of the LEDs is lit or if any of the LEDs is not in the normal state, go to
Chapter 21, “Troubleshooting” on page 149 and proceed with troubleshooting
procedures.
Ÿ
If the POST has been completed successfully and all of the LEDs are in the normal state
(step 3 in Figure 36 on page 70), the ATM Workgroup Switch is running normally.

Return to the main installation procedure.
