Appendix B. Cables, Pins and Connectors
This appendix provides information on the cables and connectors that are used to attach devices to the
IBM 8285 Nways ATM Workgroup Switch. This chapter concerns connections to:
Ÿ The 25.6Mbps ATM ports on the Base Unit
Ÿ
The optional 155Mbps I/O port
Ÿ The Expansion and Base connectors
Ÿ The Console connector on the Base Unit
It also provides guidelines for connecting a modem to the Console connector.

Figure 39 below shows the pin-outs for the straight-through cable required for connecting ATM Forum
compliant devices via UNI interface to the 25.6Mbps ports on the Base Unit.
Note: Pins 3, 4, 5, and 6 are
not used.
