Inband Operations
To update ATM microcode, ATM network administrators use the configuration console to perform inband
operations from a server connected to an ATM Workgroup Switch. After locating the directory where the
microcode updates are stored, log on using the administrator password and perform one of the following
operations:
Ÿ Update workgroup switch microcode.
Ÿ
Update hardware picocode in the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) of the workgroup switch
and ATM media modules.
See the Release Notes for further information on the order of performing these operations.
Note: The ATM Workgroup Switch gives priority to normal traffic over maintenance tasks. It is
recommended to stop normal traffic before performing a download.
Updating Workgroup Switch Microcode
To update workgroup switch microcode,
Ÿ
Stop all traffic
Ÿ Make sure the workgroup switch can still PING the TFTP server
Ÿ
Enter the following ATM Workgroup Switch commands:
1. SET TFTP SERVER_IP_ADDRESS (to define the server where the microcode is stored)
2. SET TFTP FILE_NAME (to define the pathname of the file on the server)
3. SET TFTP FILE_TYPE (to specify boot or operational microcode)
4. DOWNLOAD INBAND (to load the workgroup switch microcode)
5. SWAP MICROCODE (this will reset the ATM subsystem with the new code).
Updating FPGA Picocode in the Workgroup Switch
To update hardware picocode in the FPGA of the ATM Workgroup Switch, enter the following commands
at the directory prompt:
1. SET TFTP SERVER_IP_ADDRESS (to define the server where the picocode is stored)
2. SET TFTP FILE_NAME (to define the file on the server)
3. SET TFTP FILE_TYPE (to specify FPGA)
4. SET TFTP TARGET_MODULE (to specify the slot number of the workgroup switch) or ATM media
module)
5. DOWNLOAD INBAND (to load new hardware picocode)
6. SWAP FPGA_PICOCODE (this will reset the ATM subsystem with the new picocode).

Unit modules.
