ATM Campus Network Components
The various parts of the ATM address form a hierarchy of network components, as shown in Figure 13.

The terms used to describe the components of an ATM Campus Network are defined here:
ATM Campus Network
One or more ATM subnetworks interconnected using NNI interfaces.
This set of subnetworks is controlled by one administrative domain and a single
private owner using one network access protocol (UNI).
An ATM campus network is identified by:
Ÿ The first 9 bytes of the unique network prefix.
ATM Subnetwork One or more ATM clusters interconnected using NNI interfaces.
An ATM subnetwork is identified by:
Ÿ The first 9 bytes of the network prefix, which are the same for all subnetworks
in a campus network, plus
Ÿ A 2-byte routing domain number (RDN), which is unique within the ATM
Campus Network.
