Enabling ATM Ports and Setting Interface Types
Before you attach devices to the ATM media ports on the Base Unit, you must enable each port and
configure the type of interface used by the port to receive and transmit ATM data.
You can set a port to any of the ATM interfaces:
Ÿ User-to-Network (UNI) for ports attached to ATM user devices
Ÿ Switch-to-Switch (SSI) for ports attached to other switches in the same local cluster
Ÿ Network-to-Network (NNI) for ports attached to switches in remote clusters or subnetworks.
See “Connecting ATM Devices to Form a Network” on page 33 for more information on setting up
connections between ATM devices.
For example, to enable port 2 on the Base Unit (‘slot’ 1) as a UNI port:

Slot Numbers in the Workgroup Switch: The ATM Workgroup Switch Base Unit is defined as ‘slot’ 1.
Ports 1–12 refer to the 25.6Mbps ATM ports, as shown in Figure 3 on page 6. Port 13 refers to the
(optional) 155Mbps ATM I/O Card port.
The three slots in the Expansion Unit are numbered 1, 2 and 3, from the bottom up.
Checking Configuration of Ports: To see the status of all ports in the ATM Workgroup Switch Base
Unit, for example, use the command:

Enabling Ports with SET MODULE
You can also use the SET MODULE command with the ENABLE parameter to enable all ports on a
module, for example:
