Problems with Status LEDs on the Expansion Unit
After a POST, the Expansion Unit Status LEDs should display the following pattern:
Ÿ Power LED (green) ON
Ÿ OK LED (green) ON
Ÿ Fault LED (yellow) OFF
If any of the LEDs are incorrectly lit, follow the troubleshooting procedures listed below.
Power LED (green) is OFF after the power cable is plugged in.
Steps to Take:
1. Press the RESET button on the Base Unit to check that the LEDs are functioning properly.
Ÿ
If only the OK and Fault LEDs light ON, then the Expansion Unit is receiving power, but the Power LED is
KO. Call your IBM service representative. Failing part: Power LED.
Ÿ
If no LEDs light, then the Expansion Unit is not receiving power. Call your IBM service representative.
Possible failing parts: Expansion Unit Power Supply, Switch Board.
Attention: Pressing the RESET button resets the entire workgroup switch, interrupting all connections in the
switch. Any configuration settings that have not been saved will be lost.
OK LED (green) remains OFF after completion of POST.
Steps to Take:
1. Press the RESET button on the Base Unit to check that the LEDs are functioning properly.

If only the Power and Fault LEDs light ON, then the OK LED is KO. Call your IBM service representative.
Failing part: OK LED.
Ÿ If, after the POST finishes, the OK LED still does not light, there is a severe problem. Test the Base Unit with
the wrap test described in “Expansion Unit Wrap Test” on page 152.
Attention: Pressing the RESET button resets the entire workgroup switch, interrupting all connections in the
switch. Any configuration settings that have not been saved will be lost.
Fault LED (yellow) remains ON after completion of POST.
Steps to Take:
1. Press the RESET button on the Base Unit to check that the LEDs are functioning properly. If, after the POST
finishes, the Fault LED remains ON, there is a severe problem. Test the Base Unit with the wrap test described in
“Expansion Unit Wrap Test” on page 152.
