Customizing Workgroup Switch Default Parameters
The ATM Workgroup Switch is preconfigured with default settings that may need to be changed before
you can use the switch. To modify these parameters, you must log on using the system administrator
password. Then use the SET command to change the values for any of the following:
Ÿ Name of the workgroup switch
Ÿ Contact name and location
Ÿ Console prompt
Ÿ Console timeout value.
A brief description of each parameter is given in the following sections. For more detailed information,
see the
IBM 8285/8260: ATM Command Reference Guide.
Switch Name
In order to simplify the command parameters you need to enter to perform certain ATM tasks, you can
assign a unique name to each workgroup switch. You can then use this name instead of the IP address.
To set a unique name for the workgroup switch, enter the SET DEVICE NAME command and press
Enter.

Service Contact Information
After installing and logging on to the workgroup switch, you should enter the location of the workgroup
switch and the name of the appropriate person to contact in case of a failure in the ATM subsystem.
To do so, enter the following commands:
Ÿ SET DEVICE LOCATION to specify where the workgroup switch is installed
Ÿ SET DEVICE CONTACT to specify the name of the service personnel to contact.
