6. Turn final drive over and set it on housing (35). Install retaining ring (12) into gear (13). Place
retaining ring (14) over the spindle on bull gear (13) but don’t install it. Heat bearing (15)
to 80 - 90 [
°
C] and install on spindle of bull gear (13). Install retaining ring (16).
7. Attach a hoist to gear (13) and partly lower it onto shaft (33).
NOTE: If pinion gear was disassembled, refer for reassembling to PINION GEAR in this SECTION
8. Position pinion gear housing assembly (7) with new O-ring (8) on cover (17) and tap it down
with a soft faced hammer. Lower gear (13) and using a drift on outer race of bearing (15), tap
bearing evenly in bore of cover (17). Secure housing (7) to cover (17) and torque bolts to
180 [Nm].
9. Install retaining ring (14) into groove of sprocket drive cover (17) through holes in gear. Install
the output shaft into pinion gear (5)
11. INSTALLATION (Refer to Fig.’s 7F.7 and 7F.8)
1. Be sure the sealing surfaces of the final drive cover and the machine frame are clean of the old
gasket and apply LOCTITE #120 to both mounting surfaces.
2. Attach a hoist to the final drive as shown in Fig. 7F.6. Rotate cover (17) up into position and
hold with a pry bar. Position the steering unit output shaft in gear (5). Move the final drive into
position using the drift as a guide as shown in Fig. 7F.6. Remove the pry bar and push the final
drive in all the way. If the shaft will not spline with the final drive, slightly rotate the sprocket.
Install the final mounting bolts and remove the drift. Torque the bolts to 920 [Nm].
3. Remove the hoist and install the bolts removed for attaching the hoist.
4. Remove the blocking from under the rear frame and slowly lower the unit until the sprocket
drive segments rests on the track chain. Remove the jack. Install the track chain, refer to
SECTION 15.
5. Install the outer lower sprocket deflector (4, Fig. 7F.3) and secure with hardware. Torque the
bolts to 845 [Nm].
6. Install the outer sprocket deflector (3, Fig. 7F.3) and secure with hardware. Torque the bolts
to 845 [Nm].
7. Install the upper sprocket guards (2, Fig. 7F.3) and secure with hardware. Torque the bolts
to 520 [Nm].
8. Be sure the drain plug in the sprocket hub and the frame are installed and tight. Fill the final
drive as described in the OPERATOR’S MANUAL.
9. Check final drive for operation and leakage.
PLANETARY CARRIER HOUSING
12. REMOVAL (Refer to Fig.’s 7F.7 and 7F.8)
1. Drain final drive system through drain plug (25) in hub (22) and final drive compartment drain
plug in bottom of side rear main frame.
2. Remove two bolts securing planet carrier housing (35) to hub (22). Attach a hoist (A) at these
two bolts as shown in Fig. 7F.15. Remove the remaining planet carrier housing mounting bolts
and free the housing (35) from the hub (22). Remove planet carrier housing (35) from final
drive. Remove thrust button (34) from housing (35).
