1. Steam clean or wash cylinder with solvent before disassembling.
2. Secure cylinder housing in holding device. Remove nut (6) from cylinder housing (1). Pull rod
(2) with internal components out of cylinder housing.
3. Clamp rod in holding device. Remove nut (3) and slide piston (4) off of rod (2).
4. Remove wear rings (7), piston seal (8) and O-ring (9) from piston (4).
5. Slide gland (5) off of rod (2). Remove wiper ring (12), backup ring (11), O-ring (10), seal
ring (13), buffer ring (14), O-ring (15) and wear ring (16) from gland (5).
6. Discard all software (O-rings, seals etc.) and replace with new seal kit. Check cylinder housing
for roundness throughout its length and if out of round, replace. Check all parts for scores,
nicks or scratches and replace as necessary. Shallow scratches can be polished out with
a fine emery cloth.
28. REASSEMBLY (Refer to Fig.’s 10C.43 and 10C.44)

sides of seal together and starting seal into the groove. Then work remainder in with thumbs.
DO NOT use a screwdriver as it will damage seal. Install O-ring (14), buffer ring (15), wear ring
(16), backup ring (11) and O-ring (10). Install wiper ring (12), lips facing out, into gland (5).
2. Install O-ring (9), seal ring (8) and wear ring (7) onto piston (4).
3. Position nut (6) on rod (2). Slide gland (5) and piston (4) on rod (2) and secure with nut (3).
Torque nut to 135 - 175 [Nm].
4. Install rod (2) into housing until piston enters housing. Insert rod cylinder bottom. Thread nut
(6) to cylinder housing (1). Torque nut to 1080 - 1150 [Nm].
29. INSTALLATION (Refer to Fig. 10C.42)
1. Install cylinder (2) to ripper and secure with bolts (3).
2. Connect hoses (1) to cylinder (2).
3. Vent the hydraulic system and add oil as necessary, refer to the OPERATOR'S MANUAL.
Visually check for oil leakage.
4. Cycle cylinder a few times and recheck nut torque.
