FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY
3. With aid of a hoist, position sprocket hub assembly on cover (17) being sure bearing cup (19)
seats properly on cone. Check if hub spins freely. Install ring gear (32) on hub (29) and secure
with retainers (28) and bolts. Torque bolts to 125 [Nm]. Heat bearing cone (27) to 150 [
°
C] and
install bearing cone (27) on shaft of cover (17) until it bottoms against spacer. Heat ring gear
hub assembly to max. 260 [
°
C]. Install heated ring gear hub assembly on shaft splines of cover
(17) until it bottoms on bearing cone (27). Install retainer plate (31) and the same thickness of
shims (30) which were removed and torque to 120 [Nm]. After parts cooled release torque and
retorque 350 [Nm].
NOTE:
If hub (29), bearings (19 and 27), hub (22) or spacer (20) were replaced the following
readjustment procedure must be done using retainer plate (31):
Install retainer plate (31, Fig. 7F.13) without shims (30). Torque five old bolts (31A, Fig. 7F.13)
to 230 [Nm] while rotating hub (22) to assure proper seating of its bearings. Release torque
and remove retainer plate, after all parts have cooled down.
4. For proper shimming do as follows:
Put symmetrical 5 pcs. of virgin leads on the drive cover (17). Install retainer plate
(31, Fig. 7F.13) and retorque five old bolts (31A, Fig. 7F.13) equally spaced to 120 [Nm].
Remove the retainer plate (31) and determine the average thickness of virgin leads. Subtract
0.076 to 0,1 [mm] from this thickness and assembly a shim pack (30) of this size. Install shims
(30) and retainer plate (31) as shown in Fig. 7F.14. Torque the ten new bolts to 350 [Nm].

5. Install shaft (33) through cover (17). Install the thrust button (34) in housing (35). Apply
a technological bolt 3/8”-16UNC-2B to secure thrust button (34) in housing (35). Apply
LOCTITE #120 to matching surface of hub (22). Attach a hoist to housing (35) and lower
housing on hub (22) being sure gears (42) mesh with sun gear and ring gear and check oil

left from drain plug. Secure housing (35) to hub (22) and torque bolts
to 730 [Nm]. Install protective corks (26) in puller holes. Remove the technological bolt and
install plug (43).
