52.  Install O-rings (51 and 53) and clutch piston seal rings (50 and 52) on piston retainer hub (70) 

as shown in Fig. 7E.18. Position oil slingers (57) on clutch plate retainer (56). Apply LOCTITE 
262 to the bolts and torque to 11 [Nm]. 

53.  Install plate retainer (56) on piston retainer hub (70) and torque the bolts to 54 [Nm]. 

54. Install piston retainer hub (70) on bevel gear hub (55) until it bottoms. Install piston retainer 

ring (66) in the groove of bevel gear hub (55). 

55.  Repeat Steps 25 through 50 on the left side.

8. INSTALLATION 

 
1.  Set steering drive down flat so that lifting eyes are up. Connect the connectors, elbows and 

manifold hoses to the steering drive (refer to Fig. 7E.9). Temporarily secure steering manifold 
(2, Fig. 7E.9) to the bracket (17). Reconnect all hoses to steering drive. 

2.  Be sure the steering drive output shafts are pulled out of steering drive and spline sleeve is on 

pinion shaft. 

 

NOTE:

 

The output shafts can not be installed once the steering drive is in place. 

 

3.  Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the main frame and the steering drive. 

4.  Install the lower bolts (21, Fig. 7E.9) to the steering drive (1) and secure bolts against slipping 

out with retaining rings (20). 

5.  Attach a hoist with an adjusting sling to the steering drive as shown in Fig. 7E.7. Raise steering 

drive up and over main frame and lower it into place. Move the steering drive forward and rock  
it until the spline sleeve engages the transmission output shaft. 

6.  Secure the steering drive (1, Fig. 7E.9) to the front surface of main frame with the upper bolts 

(19) with washers. Torque the upper bolts to 920 [Nm].
