STEERING DRIVE
7. Getting through a rear frame opening install a socket on head of the lower bolt (21). Getting
through the plug hole (3, Fig. 7E.8) and join extension rod 1.541.0151-700 with the socket and
screw lower bolt (21, Fig. 7E.9). Repeat this procedure for second lower bolt (21). Torque the
lower bolts to 920 [Nm].
8. Remove the hoist from the steering drive. Install the plugs (3, Fig. 7E.8) to the rear surface of
the main frame (1). If removed, install the drawbar to the rear surfaces of the main frame (1).
NOTE:
If the rear frame suction tube has been loosened during removal, reinstall at this point.
9. With a bolt 5/8”-11UNC-2B installed in the end of the steering drive output shaft, slide the shaft
in so it splines first with the sprocket drive pinion gear and then with the steering drive.
Remove the bolt (refer to Fig. 7E.6).
NOTE:
If the shaft will not spline with the steering drive, slightly rotate the sprocket with a floor jack
positioned under a rear track grouser.
10. With a bolt 1/2”-13UNC-2B threaded in output shaft retainer (2, Fig. 7E.5), install the retainer
with new O-ring in the pinion gear of sprocket drive. Remove the bolt and install retaining
ring (1). Reinstall the pinion access cover with shims on the sprocket drive cover.
11. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 on the opposite side of the machine.
12. Remove steering manifold (2, Fig. 7E.9) from bracket (17). Reinstall lube tube (3, Fig. 7E.4)
between the steering drive (2) and the front surface of the main frame (1).
13. Install two lifting eye bolts 1/2”-13UNC-2B (2, Fig. 7E.3) to the cover (1).
14. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the main frame and cover. Apply LOCTITE #504, to
the cover surfaces only. Using a hoist and position the cover on the main frame, being careful
not to get excessive amounts of LOCTITE inside the rear main frame. Install the hardware
previously removed. Install bracket (1, Fig. 7E.2) of gear shifting valve (2) and secure with
bolts (15). Torque the bolts (15) to 455 [Nm].
15. Install hydraulic damper (12) and reconnect two hoses to damper (12).
16. Install the gear shifting valve (2) as described in Paragraph 33, INSTALLATION in
SECTION 7C.
17. Install the steering valve (9) as described in Paragraph 13, INSTALLATION in this SECTION.
18. Reconnect drain hoses (14) and two drive train control valve drain hoses.
19. Install the main frame oil dipstick and filler tube (11) with the breather (10).
IMPORTANT: Before installing the fuel tank, pressure test the rear main frame-to-cover seal (after
specified set-up time of liquid gasket) by introducing air through the breather opening. Maximum
pressure should not exceed 35 [kPa]. Use soap solution around the edge of the rear main frame
cover. If air bubbles occur, mark the area of leakage, remove the cover and repeat steps 14 to 18.
20. Attach a hoist to eye bolts 1” NCx1-1/2” and position the fuel tank (5) on rear of machine.
Secure the tank with the bolts (13) previously removed.
21. Reconnect fuel return hose (8) and fuel supply hose (7) to the fuel tank (5).
22. Fill the fuel tank as described in the OPERATOR'S MANUAL. Open fuel supply valve (4) and
check for leaks.
23. Reconnect wires of rear lamp (1, Fig. 7E.1), backup alarm (2) and fuel level sensor (8).
24. If equipped, connect hydraulic ripper hoses.
25. Fill the rear frame as described in the OPERATOR'S MANUAL.
