Doc. 065294-01 3/09

Conditioning the EluGen Cartridge

After completing the installation steps described in the previous sections,
condition the EluGen cartridge for 30 minutes before initial use.

1. Make sure the eluent reservoir is filled with ASTM filtered, Type I

(18-megohm) deionized water.

2. Verify that the suppressor is off.

3. Verify that the

Automatically turn on with pump

 option is not

selected on the ICS-2100 touch screen

SUPPRESSOR

 page. Disabling

this option lets you turn on the pump, without automatically turning
on the suppressor.

4. On the ICS-2100 touch screen

HOME

page, set the pump flow rate to

1.00 mL/min

.

5. Turn on the pump.

6. On the touch screen

HOME

 page, touch the

EGC

 button to open the

ELUENT GENERATOR

page. Verify that the cartridge type is

Carb

If the cartridge type is wrong, verify that the cartridge serial number
was entered correctly in the Chromeleon Server Configuration
program (see

“Recording the EluGen Cartridge Serial Number in

Chromeleon” on page 89

).

7. Set the

EGC-1

concentration to

9 mM

.

8. Turn on the EGC-1 current.

9. Run the EluGen cartridge at these settings for 30 minutes.

10. Turn off the EGC-1 current.

11. Turn off the pump.

To avoid damaging the suppressor, always turn off the suppressor
before conditioning the EluGen cartridge. The pump flow is on during
conditioning, however, no flow reaches the suppressor.
