Conditioning the EPM and EluGen Cartridge
After completing the plumbing connections described in the previous
sections, follow the steps below to hydrate the EPM for 5 minutes and
then condition the EPM and EluGen cartridge for 30 minutes.
1. Make sure the eluent reservoir is filled with ASTM filtered, Type I
(18-megohm) deionized water.
2. Verify that the suppressor is off.
3. Verify that the
Automatically turn on with pump
option is not
selected on the ICS-2100 touch screen
SUPPRESSOR
page. Disabling
this option lets you turn on the pump, without automatically turning
on the suppressor.
4. On the ICS-2100 touch screen
HOME
page, set the pump flow rate to
1.00 mL/min
.
5. Turn on the pump.
6. Run the pump for 5 minutes to hydrate the EPM.
7. Touch the
EGC
button on the
HOME
page to open the
ELUENT
GENERATOR
page.
8. Verify that the cartridge type for
EGC-1
is
Carb
and the type for
EGC-2
is
pH Mod
.
If the cartridge types are wrong, make sure the cartridge serial
numbers were entered correctly in the Chromeleon Server
Configuration program (see
“Recording the EluGen Cartridge and
EPM Serial Numbers in Chromeleon” on page 67
).
9. Select the following settings:
•
Set the
EGC-1
concentration to
9 mM
.
•
Set the
EGC-2
concentration to
1 mM
.
10. Turn on the EGC-1 and EGC-2 currents.
11. Run the EluGen cartridge and EPM at these settings for 30 minutes.
To avoid damaging the suppressor, always turn off the suppressor
before conditioning the EPM and EluGen cartridge. The pump flow is
on during conditioning, however, no flow reaches the suppressor.
