Inking up occurs, or a dried-in or flooded image appears on the final
press output.
• Inking up can occur when ink rollers come
into contact with a dry plate. Rewet the plate
with water and restart the press. If this does
not resolve the problem, rewet the plate with
straight fountain solution.
• A dried -in image is caused when inking up
occurs and is allowed to dry on the plate.
Wash the plate with water and restart the
press. If this does not resolve the problem,
rewet the plate with straight fountain solution.
• A flooded image is the result of an overload of
ink on the plate. Incorrect water to fountain
ratio can cause this. Increase the concentration
of fountain solution in the fountain/water
mixture.
A slight tint appears on the entire page except for a small strip of
approximately .25" (6 mm) at the top.
• If the tint appears on the plate, check the
printer’s density setting and reprint the plate.
See “Adjusting Print Density” in chapter 6.
• If the tint appears on the final press output, but
not the plate, check the wetting solution
mixture.
- Increase the fountain solution
concentration in the wetting mixture.
- Check the pH of the fountain solution and
adjust, if necessary. Optimum range is 4.5
to 5.5.
