4. If you are instructed to return the hard disk drive, follow all packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to
you.
Installing a 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drive
To install a 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps.
1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the hard disk drive to any
unpainted metal surface on the outside of the chassis or rack; then, remove the
hard disk drive from the package.
Attention: Do not press on the top of the drive. Pressing the top might
damage the drive.
2. Make sure that the drive tray handle is in the open position.
3. Align the drive with the guide rails in the drive bay; then, carefully slide the drive
into the bay until the drive stops.
4. Rotate the drive tray handle to the closed position.
Removing a 2.5-inch simple-swap hard disk drive or solid-state
drive
To remove a 2.5-inch simple-swap hard disk drive or solid-state drive, complete the
following steps.
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 123.
2. If the system-board tray is operating, shut down the operating system; then,
press the power-control button to turn off the system-board tray (see “Turning
off the system-board tray” on page 10 for more information).
