5. SPARK ARRESTER

6. VALVE CLEARANCE

Valve clearance inspection and adjustment must be performed
with the engine cold.

Inspection/Adjustment:

1) Open the left and right maintenance covers.

2) Remove the plug cover and disconnect the breather tube

from the head cover.

3) Remove the 6 mm special bolt and two 6 x 12 mm flange

bolts and 6 mm washers, then remove the head cover
shroud.

4) Remove the head cover bolt and cylinder head cover.

Cleaning:

1) Remove the two 5 x 16 mm screws, tail pipe and spark

arrester from the muffler.

2) Clean the carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen

with a brush.

Be careful to avoid damaging the screen.

3) Check the spark arrester screen for damage. Replace the

spark arrester if it is damaged.

4) Clean the tail pipe screen to remove carbon deposit.

Reinstall the spark arrester and tail pipe and then tighten
the two 5 x 16 mm screws to the specified torque.

TORQUE: 3.5 N.m (0.4 kgf.m, 2.6 lbf.ft)

The engine and muffler become very hot during operation
and they remain hot for a while after operation. Be sure that
the engine is cool before muffler removal/installation.
