TESTING
General mechanical adjustment of pedal box may cause no change, therefore use DVOM to determine
the malfunctioning components first.
Ordinary DVOM is as shown in the figure. Contact the FAIRPLAY service part department to find out
about the DVOM it recommends. Any DVOM may be used; however, the accuracy, controls, displays
and features may vary depending on the make and model. Use and maintain the ohmmeter as per the
suggestion and instructions issued by the manufacturer.
To ensure accurate readings, be sure to set the ohmmeter to the proximal value over the anticipated
voltage.
In order to prevent the vehicle from moving unexpectedly, the rear wheels should be raised prior
to each test.
Place the direction selector in 'Run-Tow/Maintenance' and turn the key switch to 'ON'. Depress the
accelerator pedal until the micro switch in the pedal box activates which should cause the solenoid to
make an audible click.
TESTING BATTERY VOLTAGE
It is important to determine the condition of the battery set before proceeding with any electrical
troubleshooting. An open voltage test is of little use since a battery that has deteriorated to the point of
requiring replacement can still show six volts or higher in an open voltage test. If there is any doubt as to
the adequacy of the battery set, charge the batteries and perform a load test using a discharge machine
following manufacturer's instructions. If battery is satisfactory and no problem is detected, recharge the
battery pack.
If it is verified that the battery itself has no problem, use a DVOM, which is directly connected to the
binding posts of battery, to determine the open circuit voltage of the battery pack (Ref Fig. I3). In the
following tests, this voltage level will be used as a reference. Some voltage losses due to resistance or
the wire-connector connections may be displayed via the readings, and the readings are usually greater
than 1V and lower than the reference voltage. No reading indicates an "open" condition and the battery
wires should be inspected for a broken or disconnected wire or component.
