Fig. C5: Tie Rod Replacement
A worn tie rod is likely caused by incorrect wheel alignment. Before returning the repaired
vehicle to the customer, the wheels shall be positioned and aligned correctly (Ref Fig. C14).
Adjust the tie rod to 25.39 inches (64.5 centimetres) from both-end center of tie rod, and the installation
sequence is just reverse of disassembly (Ref Fig. C5). Tighten the slotted nut (3) to a minimum of 56 ft lb
(80 N.m) and continue tightening the nut as required in order to insert a new cotter pin. Maximum torque
is 65 ft lb (90N.m).
When tie rod is replaced, check front wheel toe-in and adjust if necessary. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT
next to this section.
