gear case (14) from the vehicle.
Lift and support front of vehicle per SAFETY section.
Remove the front wheel and universal joint (as stated before). Remove the cotter pin (34), and loosen
the slotted nut (33) till the ball joint (16) threads are protected. Using a ball joint separator as a lever,
apply pressure to ball joint and tap nut with plastic faced hammer to release ball joint from the
passenger-side stub axle. Remove the steering gear tie rod, finally remove the three connecting bolts
(30) that secure the steering gear case and the frame, and then take the steering gear case out of the
vehicle underneath (Ref Fig. C8).
Replace the steering gear case in reverse sequence. Tighten the mounting bolt (30) to 35-50 ft lb (50-70
N.m).
Tighten the steering gear’s slotted nut (33) to 35ft lb (50 N.m) and continue tightening the nut as required
in order to insert a new cotter pin. Maximum torque is 50 ft lb (70N.m).
