TESTING A SWITCH FOR CONTINUITY
Place a probe on the switch contact, and another probe on the other terminal (Ref Fig. I4).

Fig. I 4: Continuity Check of Switch
Activating the normally open (NO) switch may cause the DVOM to display “0” or give audible indication
when the switch is operated. Activating the normally closed (NC) switch may cause the DVOM to display
“0” or give audible indication when probed touches the switch but is still not activated. The audible
indicator will stop and the meter display will indicate a value greater than "0" when the switch is
activated.
The change in display or audible indicator demonstrates the condition of the switch.
TESTING A SOLENOID FOR CONTINUITY
Place a probe on a big terminal, and another probe on the other big terminal (Ref Fig. I5). If the meter
shows "0" or gives an audible indication the solenoid terminals are "welded" closed and the solenoid
must be replaced.
If the continuity test indicates that contacts are not "welded" and the wiring to the solenoid coil is good,
the coil has failed and the solenoid must be replaced.
Set the switch to position
REV or FWD
