BATTERY AND CHARGER

J-4
Battery must not be overfilled with water since the charge cycle may cause the electrolyte to
overflow out of the battery, which may result in damage of relevant components.
Do not fill in water before charging unless electrolyte level is even with or lower than the plate.
In the process of battery charging, a large amount of gas will be generated when the charge cycle is over.
This kind of gas is exactly hydrogen that is lighter than air. Hydrogen may take small liquid drops of water
and sulfuric acid out of battery gas vent, however such a loss is very small; in case the battery electrolyte
level is excessively high, electrolyte might stop up the vent-pipe.
The gas will be forced out of the vent-pipe and battery top cap due to the pressure, water may evaporate
and disappear, however sulfuric acid can't be discharged and may damage the vehicle components and
the bottom surface of the storage devices. Loss of sulfuric acid will reduce the concentration of acid in
electrolyte and reduce the service life of battery.
Battery may consume a large amount of water before its life-span expires. It is important to guarantee
the purity of the applied water, and the water should be free of any pollutant that may affect the chemical
reaction and reduce the life-span of battery. The water must be distilled or purified via high-efficient
filtering device. If water is not distilled, it must be analyzed; if necessary, install a filtering system in order
to ensure that the water may meet the requirements listed in the water purity table (Ref Fig. J2).

Even if water is colorless, odorless and drinkable, it shall be analyzed and checked whether or not its
content of impurity exceeds the number value specified in the table.
Automatic water filling device, may be used along with the approved acceptable water supply (Ref Fig.
J3). These water filling devices may be ufiliged so as to guarantee the correct electrolyte level in the
battery units, which may act rapidly and accurately.
